  • About Us

The Heritage Humane Society is Williamsburg’s largest animal shelter serving residents of the City of Williamsburg, James City County and District 1 of York County with an annual intake of nearly 2,000 animals. Support from our community and municipal governments, transfer partners and the efforts of our team allowed us to maintain a live release rate of over 93% for many years.

The Heritage Humane Society serves as compassionate stewards of homeless pets that are in transition from stray/surrender to forever homes. We serve to educate the public about humane animal care and treatment, advocate animal welfare, and provide affordable adoption services.
