  • About Us

Massachusetts Correctional Legal Services (MCLS) is the only statewide legal services office dedicated to providing civil legal assistance to indigent people incarcerated in MA’s prisons & jails. Founded in 1972, MCLS has helped thousands of prisoners through informal advocacy & civil litigation in state and federal courts. Our priority issues: guard brutality toward prisoners; the failure to provide proper medical care; unfair and discriminatory segregation and classification practices; and inhumane conditions of confinement. MCLS addresses these problems through administrative advocacy, legislative advocacy, and litigation.
