Since 1980, the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless has followed a clear mission: “We organize and advocate to prevent and end homelessness, because we believe housing is a human right in a just society.” As a systemic advocacy nonprofit, CCH leads strategic campaigns, community outreach, and policy initiatives that target lack of affordable housing and other root causes of homelessness across Chicago and Illinois. We also increase access to public schools, human services, and job and housing opportunities for all. By combining community organizing, policy advocacy, and legal aid, CCH strives to center the expertise of people with lived experience to build power and make change.
We recognize that homelessness stems from systemic racism, which is embedded in all structures and institutions, including organizations like ours. CCH is committed to advancing racial equity in the workplace through the work of our racial equity committee and through the campaigns and initiatives we lead.
