  • About Us

    Lydia's House mission is to provide housing counseling and other social services to low and moderate income families in DC. With three program focus areas, "growing children, strengthening families and changing neighborhoods", Lydia's House has become an essential part of the Ward 8 neighborhood known as Bellevue adjacent to Congress Heights and Anacostia. In its 21-year history Lydia's House has delivered an array of life skill programs that improve the quality of life for children and their families including supported family housing, housing counseling, and work force development. Lydia's House is a place in the neighborhood where children find a safe haven and receive help with homework; enjoy safe recreational activities, tutoring, and gain life skill such as financial literacy and college preparation through materials obtained from its membership with the National Association of College Counselors. Lydia's House also strengthens families of children by extending services including housing counseling, financial literacy, computer training, GED preparation, parenting seminars, and free tax preparation to parents and offer affordable housing through our partnership with the Far Southwest- Southeast community development corporation. Our organization, has served over 8,000 people and continue to grow as the needs expands.
