  • About Us

Mission - Increase access to healthy food through community and family engagement.

Values - At Let Us Learn we are increasing access to healthy food for the entire community. We welcome and celebrate diversity, inclusion, and respect for all people of different backgrounds, beliefs, and identities.

We are working on our mission through a variety of programs. We have five school gardens located at five different elementary schools in Floyd County. At each of these schools, we have in-school classes as well as after-school garden clubs. Kids are learning about gardening, where food comes from, and eating and cooking healthy. The children take an active role in maintaining and planting in the gardens. Along with the help many volunteers.

We also give out free garden kits to families that are involved in our school garden program as well as vegetable and flower plants to plant in their gardens.

Every Saturday from the end of May to the end of October we host "Veggie Rescue". We have several generous farmers that donate excess produce to us a the end of the Farmer's Market on Saturdays. We also are able to harvest from our school and Market gardens. We then take that produce and offer it for free, to the community, at Veggie Rescue.

Let Us Learn's newest program is the Breaking Bread and Barriers Meal Prep program. This is a 6-week program that runs on Monday evenings. The goal of this program is to teach people cooking skills for healthier eating on a budget. There are five sessions throughout the year. At each session, we are able to host five participants. We begin the evening by discussing what is on the menu for the night. Then the participants are paired up with a volunteer and each group is assigned a task of cooking or prepping ingredients for 4-5 take-home meals that each participant will take home and have for the week. At the end of the night, a meal is prepared by a volunteer and all participants and volunteers sit down to a fresh meal together.
