  • About Us

Bread Head was founded by Celeste Baker when she became aware of the isolation that many people experience when they move from the streets into housing. This transition can cause feelings of disconnection from the community left on the streets as well as from the mainstream society in which they are expected to assimilate into. Despite being housed, access to food, money, and community is limited, resulting in increased feelings of stress and disconnection.

Our programs are community-driven and centered. We create safe, nurturing environments in which to grow a sense of self efficacy and personal growth, we aspire to help change negative self-narratives and to be a partner in empowerment. Although housing and food insecurity may be something that people experience – it is not their identity.

Bread Head is committed to being anti-racist, inclusive and diverse. More specifically, we value and solicit diversity of thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and experiences. We value and promote the inclusion of people, regardless of their race, sex, gender identity/expression, language, religion, education, orientation, political affiliation, physical appearance and abilities, age, housing or employment status, socio-economic status, etc. We believe in regular assessment, reflection, and the pursuit of growth, whether on the individual level or as an organization.
