About Us
Our volunteer tutoring program provides reading tutors for all Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd-grade students who attend Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy. MLK is a Grand Rapids Public School housing pre-K through 8th grade and serves the neighborhood students; 100% of our student population is considered at the poverty level. Our goal is to help our students, via their tutor time, to learn to love learning! Volunteers join our program from local churches, schools, and businesses and hear about us from friends and family. We provide training to orientate volunteers to school policies, reading strategies, and tutoring center supplies. No experience is required to become a part of our program, but all volunteers must pass a background check in order to volunteer with our students. Tutoring takes place during the school day. This is our 33rd year of partnership with MLK!
