The Compeer program matches trained, compassionate community volunteers in one-to-one relationships with adults in treatment for serious mental illness. The goal of the relationship is to improve an individual's sense of belonging, self-esteem, social skills and independence. The volunteers and friends mutually agree to become Compeer friends and visit with each other for a minimum of four hours a month for a year.
