Filer Voter 2020 Project

Washington, DC

  • About Us

Filer Voter is a voter registration and turnout experiment conducted by the nonprofit, nonpartisan Brookings Institution at nonprofit Volunteer Income Tax Assistance locations providing free tax preparation services. Previous research indicates that voter registration at tax time has the potential to not only increase the voter pool, but to make the voting population more closely mirror the citizenry as a whole. Nationally, implementation of the Filer Voter Project will measure the effectiveness of offering voter registration and a turnout reminder to low- and moderate-income households during the income tax filing process.
