  • About Us

Since 1922, Camps Airy & Louise have been the place for Jewish campers entering grades 2 through 12 to spend their summer. Our brother-sister camps are single-sex (Camp Airy for boys, Camp Louise for girls) and provide a warm environment that emphasizes community, friendships and fun. Camp Louise is located in Cascade, MD and Camp Airy is just 8 miles away in Thurmont, MD in the beautiful Catoctin Mountains. Both camps are accredited by the American Camping Association and the Maryland Youth Camp Safety Act. We are also participating members of JCamp 180, a program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the Goodman Camping Initiative for Modern Israel History.

Our founders Lillie and Aaron Straus saw their role in youth development as critical. Their programmatic mission was to instill values and character. Their organizational vision was that camp was good for all children, not just the ones who could afford it. To this day, these beliefs are the foundation of our organization as we continue to strive to be the leading provider of an exceptional overnight camp experience for Jewish youth.

The Camp Airy and Louise Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.
