Beyond the Bars Miami

Beyond the Bars is a membership-based organization that builds the power of people directly impacted by the carceral system in Miami through strategic policy campaigns, leadership development, and popular education. Our members are people whose loved ones are or were incarcerated in jails in Miami-Dade County or who have been incarcerated themselves.

We were formed in 2020 in response to the impact of Covid-19 on people in our county jails, recognizing the need for a place where people with incarcerated loved ones can address the harms caused by our county’s carceral system. Our vision is to build a grassroots, member-led organization with the power to chip away at the carceral system.
