    Who We Are

JumpStart is not your normal NGO.

Founded in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2009, JumpStart creates tools, visualizes news, and shares stories to shed light on issues of social importance to a wide audience. We research topics by analyzing data and translating it into engaging content that informs people about critical issues. In the last year, we’ve run communications campaigns on topics such as road safety, elections, healthy eating, and gender issues.

JumpStart is a diverse team of investigators, researchers, designers, programmers, and storytellers. We take pride in the work that we do.

    What We Do

Over the past three years JumpStart has created more than 200 visual stories displayed on our site feradi.info. We create:

We have also created a diverse suite of online tools. StoryBuilder allows anyone to easily generate professional looking mixed-media stories. Xtraktr allows people to upload and explore survey data. Other tools help people explore Georgian election results, analyze monetary exchange rates, and determine whether someone can afford to buy a flat.

JumpStart does not work alone, but builds inter/national partnerships to advocate for open data and technology stewardship to ensure greater public participation in civil life. Through our School of Data, we train NGOs, journalists, and activists to collect, analyze, and communicate data more effectively. We have worked with organizations such as Transparency International, Meydan TV, UNFPA Georgia, UNICEF Georgia, Georgian State Audit Office, and Liberali.

We are increasingly recognized for our work. In 2014, JumpStart won the On Think Tanks Data Visualisation Competition for static visualizations and in 2015 was a finalist for the Data Journalism Awards. In 2015 we won the Adami Online Media Prize with our partner Chai Khana. And for the last two years, JumpStart has been awarded a 5-star rating by Transparify.
