    Narrative of Purpose, Function and Activities.

    Chicago Access Corporation (CAN TV) is an independent nonprofit organization established in 1983 to administer, promote and develop maximum community involvement in and use of Chicago's public access channels for cultural, educational, health, social services, civic, community and other nonprofit purposes. CAN TV gives every Chicago resident and nonprofit a voice on cable television by providing the training, the tools, and channel time.

    CAN TV's five local, non-commercial channels reach a million potential viewers and show the diversity of people and ideas that reflect Chicago, including voices often excluded from mainstream media. This unique communications resource belongs to the people of Chicago, whether you are viewer, producer or simply believe in the right of free expression. CAN TV has become a lifeline for thousands of Chicago residents and nonprofits.  CAN TV helps viewers find jobs, locate health counseling, access art and educational resources, interact with local public officials, and experience a diversity of viewpoints.
