  • About Us

    Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth) is a grassroots, non-partisan, interfaith, member-supported non-profit organization that brings together people of all ages, races, ethnic backgrounds and occupations for the purpose of making positive peaceful change on the local, national and global level. It helps people understand that peace is not just the absence of war, violence and conflict, but a vibrant, thriving, safe, secure and sustainable neighborhood and world—and that peace is a necessity for survival.

    Pacem in Terris has been on the front lines of the movements for peace, ending racism, anti-apartheid, nuclear freeze, disarmament, peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland, ending the death penalty, stopping gun violence, restorative justice, non-violent conflict resolution, environmental sustainability, global awareness and local action.

    Pacem in Terris's programs can be grouped under the following headings:

    1. International Peace and Reconciliation
    2. Peace in Our Communities and at Home
    3. Restorative justice

    Examples of what we do:

    • Programs for schools on non-violence, conflict resolution, racism, global awareness, problem solving, and related topics.
    • Public lectures, workshops and concerts (PeaceSeekers and Young Adult Peacemakers projects).
    • Film series that address topics such as the environment, war and terrorism, economic justice, and other subjects.
    • Abolishing the death penalty in Delaware (Delaware Citizens Opposed to the Death Penalty).
    • Enabling people seeking a pardon to successfully obtain one (Pardons Project and now, Delaware's APEX program).
    • Building connections, trust, and community between youth on differing sides of deadly conflicts.
    • Participating in local, regional and national peace-building rallies, vigils, and demonstrations (Campaign Against Gun Violence).
    • Strengthening the local community and economy (Wilmington in Transition & DE Hour Exchange projects).
    • PeaceWork, a five-times per year printed newsletter about local and global peace and justice initiatives, and PeaceWorks, a weekly e-newsletter that includes timely issues and events.
    • Wreaths for Peace annual reminder of peace on Earth.
