Institute 193 embraces the notion that groundbreaking contemporary art can and does emerge outside of the nation's major metropolitan centers. The Institute's gallery space is located in Lexington, Kentucky, which lacks a museum or a center for contemporary art, despite its vibrant creative community. Institute 193 fill this void by providing emerging and mid-career artists from the Southeastern United States (emphasizing Kentucky) with professionally installed exhibitions, color catalogs of their work, and scholarly essays pertaining to their shows.
