Skylark Junior School, we are committed to transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Kona Village, Wakiso District, Uganda, by providing them with quality education and a safe, nurturing environment. Since our founding in 2016, we have made significant progress, but much remains to be done. To continue expanding our reach and impact, we are launching a fundraising campaign to support the growth of several key projects. With your help, we can positively impact the lives of hundreds of children in our community.
Why We Need Your Help
Currently, Skylark Junior School serves children from ages 1 to 12, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds. While we are proud of our progress, our facilities and resources are limited, and demand continues to grow. Expanding the school and its services will allow us to:
Enroll more children in desperate need of education.
Improve infrastructure for a better learning environment.
Introduce new programs that support the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of our students.
Build sustainable initiatives that benefit both the school and the broader community for generations to come.
Our Goal: Raising Funds for Critical Projects
To continue serving our students and community effectively, we aim to raise funds to support the following key initiatives:
Skylark Junior School has outgrown its current facilities. We urgently need to expand and improve existing structures to accommodate more students. The funds raised will help us:
Build new classrooms to reduce overcrowding and enhance individualized learning.
Upgrade our library and resource center with additional books, learning materials, and technology.
Renovate classrooms, ensuring they are safe, well-ventilated, and equipped with necessary furniture and teaching aids.
Install sanitation facilities, including toilets and handwashing stations, to promote hygiene.
We plan to create a dedicated space for our youngest students (ages 1-5) tailored to their developmental needs. This new center will include:
Safe, age-appropriate play areas with educational toys and tools.
Indoor and outdoor spaces promoting creative learning and interaction.
Qualified early childhood educators specializing in nurturing the emotional and intellectual growth of toddlers and young children.
Recognizing that not all children pursue formal education beyond primary school, we want to introduce vocational training programs that equip older students with practical skills, such as:
Carpentry, tailoring, and craft-making, providing trades that students can use to support themselves in the future.
Agriculture and farming techniques that promote sustainable food production and self-reliance within the community.
Computer literacy and digital skills training to prepare students for the growing technology job market.
Hunger is a major issue for many of our students, making it difficult for them to focus on learning. Establishing a school feeding program would ensure every child receives at least one nutritious meal a day, improving their health and academic performance. Our plan includes:
Building a kitchen and dining area for meal preparation and serving.
Partnering with local farmers and suppliers to source fresh, healthy food.
Employing nutritionists to develop balanced meal plans for students.
Physical activity is essential for a child’s well-being and development. We plan to create safe spaces for sports and recreation, helping students build teamwork, discipline, and fitness. Funds will support:
The construction of a sports field for soccer, running, and other games.
The purchase of sports equipment, including soccer balls, nets, uniforms, and more.
Extracurricular clubs, such as music, dance, drama, and art, to foster creativity and self-expression.
Many children in our community are orphans or come from extremely poor families and cannot afford even the modest fees for schooling. By creating a scholarship fund, we can ensure that the most vulnerable children can access education without financial hardship. Donations to this fund will cover:
School fees and tuition.
Uniforms, textbooks, and school supplies.
Medical care and well-being support for children in difficult circumstances.
