  • About Us

Rx for Reading, the 501(c)(3) affiliate organization to The Riordan Foundation, was founded in 1989 by the former Mayor of Los Angeles and California Secretary of Education Richard J. Riordan. Its mission is to provide all students, especially those in low-income communities, with access to a high quality education that will prepare them to compete successfully in the 21st century. Rx for Reading offers grants to Los Angeles County public and parochial schools where the majority of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. To meet its mission, Rx for Reading focuses on three main categories of investment: technology, leadership development, and school choice.
