  • About Us

The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) is a private, nonprofit law office focused on social justice, human rights and criminal justice reform. EJI seeks to alleviate problems caused by unfair criminal justice policies and bias against the poor and people of color through litigation, public education, legal training programs, and policy reform. In its 20-year history, EJI has established important legal precedents through litigation in state and federal courts as well as the U.S. Supreme Court with much of our work focused on providing legal services to prisoners and death row inmates in Alabama.
