    Mission: The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Description: The American Red Cross provides emergency relief to victims of disasters and also provides community disaster education, training in First Aid, CPR, AED, Water Safety, babysitting and other health and safety programs, as well as instructor-level classes. The Chapter also supports the Connecticut Region Blood Services Program, emergency communications between members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, and international social services and tracing including Holocaust and war victim tracing and information. Volunteer opportunities are provided for adults and youth, including internships for college students. History: Volunteers are the very foundation of the American Red Cross and include board and committee members, health and safety course instructors, office volunteers, trained disaster responders, and more. The Red Cross depends on volunteers to help us accomplish our mission of helping people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The American Red Cross offers a variety of exciting opportunities, at all levels of the organization, for volunteers to make a difference.
