About Us
Shunku Llacta (meaning “heart place” in the Kichwa language) is a non-profit organization in northwestern Ecuador that promotes respect for and the well-being of our environment and its people, by bridging across distances and cultures to bring help where it is needed.
We bring together local residents and international volunteers to advance rural community development projects that integrate conservation of the natural environment, education and culture. We develop training and community-based facilities to help residents engage in creative, educational, and economically sustainable development activities that are viable alternatives to deforestation and despair.
