Established
in 1986, St. Peter’s Haven is a non-sectarian, 501(c)(3) organization operating
a food pantry, a transitional family shelter and a community garden. Our mission is to provide food and shelter to
families and individuals in need; to prevent homelessness and its recurrence
and to offer stability to the family during their time of crisis. At
our shelter, we provide short term housing for homeless and at risk
families. Most stays are around 90
days. At capacity, our three apartment
units can shelter up to 18 people at any one time. Our goal is to support and maintain the
family as a unit, provide case management and to assist our families to obtain
safe, affordable housing. Our utmost
priority is to keep each family intact so that they can maintain the normal
rhythm of family life. We accept
families of any configuration, including inter-generational and extended
families.
At our Healthy
Community Food Pantry, we serve 800 household members each month, providing healthy balanced groceries to the food insecure in our community. Making healthy food available to all helps to alleviate many of the health issues associated with poor nutrition especially in our children and in our seniors. We offer a full range of services including
assistance with accessing available resources for the family including
employment opportunities, housing, social services, health and well-being. We provide supplemental services for our
families including backpacks and school supplies to assure back to school
readiness for the children; warm coats, hats and gloves in winter and all the
food needed to prepare a special Thanksgiving meal at home.
Acting as a community center, we offer clinics throughout the
year on topics such as veterans’ services, senior living assistance,
prescription packaging, health and wellness.
Our goal is to be a community center in which agencies can offer their
services and those in need can receive services in one central meeting
place.
We have two community gardens in which we grow many
herbs and fresh vegetables to share with pantry members, staff and
volunteers.
