DC Abortion Fund

Our mission:

The DC Abortion Fund helps pay for the abortion care of anyone living in or traveling to the DC Metro region, without restrictions or requirements. DC is a vital access point for the entire East Coast, so we help break down the legal, financial, and geographic hurdles that abortion seekers, near or far, are forced to face—all thanks to the power of mutual aid. Alongside our sibling funds, national organizations, and clinics around the DMV, we work to supersede any and all systemic barriers to abortion access.

Our vision:

We envision a future where everyone has access to abortion care—by their community, for their community, in their community. Where no one has to pay for health care, including abortion. And where abortion rights are safe, clinics are abundant, and abortion itself is stigma-free.

We envision a world run on community care, because we know that despite systems failing us, we can still show up for each other.

 What we value:

• Reproductive Justice: It is a human right to decide if, when, and how to have children, and parent the children you have in safe and sustainable communities. We are driven by this vision, which originated with Black women activists.
• Autonomy: Our callers are the decision makers of their lives. We place their autonomy and dignity above all else. 
• Accountability: We seek to make abortion access easier, not harder, and are committed to relieving callers of the financial, logistical, and emotional loads of navigating abortion care.
• Community: Generations of community members have offered their time to expand abortion access through DCAF. We’re driven by the support from and power within this community.
• DC: We’re DC-based, DC-grounded. We’re committed to the fight for DC Statehood, and full civil and human rights for the people of the District of Columbia (and beyond).
• Intersectionality: We seek to align ourselves with all movements for liberation, near and far.
• Joy: We are rooted in community care and community joy.
• Care: When systems fail us, we are each others’ greatest resource. We can, and we will, take care of us.
