  • About Us

The Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Association of New York State (CDPAANYS) provides education and advocacy in support of the New York State Medicaid program consumer directed personal assistance (CDPA). CDPA is a community based long-term care program program that is based on the independent living philosophy of dignity of risk, and provides seniors and people with disabilities with the ability to gain independence through the ability to manage their own long-term care services.

CDPAANYS began as a forceful grassroots effort that formed in the aftermath of passage of the law creating the program. Many advocates, people with disabilities and individuals supportive of the program put together the framework of this organization that now serves as the voice for consumers, workers and providers throughout the state.

CDPAANYS maintains a strong agenda of support for CDPA, including fighting to end the shortage of workers, adequate reimbursement to ensure the long-term stability of the program, and strengthen the ability of those in need of long-term care to receive the services they need in their community. We work with a wide array of organizations and coalitions to help achieve our goals, including other provider associations, consumer groups, disability groups, and others committed to our values.
