The Alderson Community Food Hub is a grass-roots organization that strives to connect food producers and consumers in West Virginia’s Greenbrier Valley, provide access to nutritious food, and cultivate awareness of sustainable food systems. The Food Hub offers a number of programs that support the local food system: it operates a seasonal Community Market and a year-round Green Grocer (community co-op); provides community members garden space at a Community Garden; manages a Grow Appalachia site, which helps local gardeners to produce more food by providing materials and technical assistance; conducts gardening and nutrition programming at Alderson Elementary School, including maintaining a school garden there; and is in the process of developing a community orchard in partnership with a local farmer.
