    About Strategic Housing Finance Corporation of Travis County (SHFC)

    Strategic Housing Finance Corporation of Travis County (SHFC) is a nonprofit that advances affordable housing by providing critical financing tools to multifamily rental developers. We have partnered to create over 5,500 affordable housing units across Travis County, with another 2,500 mixed-income units in the pipeline. A local Housing Finance Corporation, SHFC is governed by a board of directors appointed by the Travis County Commissioners' Court. SHFC has recently established operations independent of a long-time affiliate organization and is building a best-in-class housing finance agency.

    The Position

    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance & Administration will ensure SHFC's ambitious agenda is supported by highest quality financial, administrative, and support services. SHFC generates approximately $4M in annual revenue and has $9M in net assets; by year-end, the organization expects to have a team of 13 staff members, supported by a robust complement of third-party consultants. The Director will provide key leadership in driving internal policy and systems improvement from concept to execution.

    Candidate Profile

    Successful candidates will have 5+ years of experience in nonprofit or government administration. A degree in accounting, finance or nonprofit management is preferred, but not required if core competencies can be demonstrated. The following skills, experience, and expertise are desired:

    Financial Management: Mastery of financial management and reporting standards and best practices for nonprofit and/or government organizations. Demonstrated capacity to develop and manage organizational budgets. Clear ability to execute day-to-day financial functions, develop policies and procedures, and coordinate with third-party accounting firms for ongoing financial reporting and independent audits. Experience preparing and/or interpreting financial reports for real estate development efforts, subsidiary organizations, or investment vehicles is preferred.

    Administrative Experience: Proven ability to leverage in-house or third-party resources to develop and deploy effective administrative policies, processes, and services to support nonprofit business functions such as human resources, procurement, contract management, technology infrastructure, facilities management, and organizational risk management.

    Mission-Aligned Systems Thinker: Committed to nonprofit best practice and understands the linkage between managerial excellence and achievement of broader organizational goals. Thinks beyond immediate tasks to the policies and operational systems needed to maximize efficiency and impact.

    Communication & Relationships: Oriented to providing first-class service for both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to effectively translate complex information for executive leadership and Board of Directors.

    What You'll Do

    Financial Reporting: Coordinate with contracted third-party bookkeeping and accounting firms to ensure accurate, transparent, and compliant reporting. Present standard and customized financial reports for Executive Director and Board. Oversee annual independent audit.

    Financial Operations: Oversee the annual budget development process and monitor ongoing budget to actual revenue and expenditures. Manage cash and investments, as well as accounts payable and receivable. Develop and administer financial policies and procedures to support sound financial practice.

    Human Resources: Working with a third-party human resources and payroll consultant, source and manage the employee benefits package. Develop and implement HR policies, oversee recruiting, hiring, and onboarding, and lead the implementation of effective professional development and performance management systems.

    Procurement & Contract Management: Create effective, agile, and transparent systems for procuring goods and services and managing multiple contracts with third-party consultants.

    Operational Supports: Source and manage key operational services including but not limited to organizational insurance, office space/facilities management, technology, and document management.

    Compensation & Benefits

    Salary for this position is expected to be from $104,000 to $127,000, depending on experience and qualifications. SHFC offers an employee benefits package including paid time off, life insurance, a matched 401K program, and medical, dental, and vision coverage. SHFC staff enjoy a hybrid in-person and telecommuting schedule.
