    Working closely with the CEO, the Board, and internal teams, the Major Gift Officer will develop and execute strategies for solicitation that will grow annual revenue from individuals and corporations. S/he will strategically strengthen and build a pipeline of major gift prospects through targeted outreach, ensuring that as many as possible are retained as continuous donors to the organization and upgraded in their giving and involvement.This is a part-time position (32 hours/week) but some flexibility is available.

    Essential Functions:

    • Will carry a caseload of 100 donors from a larger group of donors to the organization, spending at least 50% of the time meeting with donors and potential donors. Building meaningful relationships is at the heart of our mission.
    • Will research and outreach to potential donors outside of the organization’s pool. Meeting with community members in the Boston area that may have interest in supporting the organizations work or may know of someone who has interest. Securing five quality meetings per month is a minimum.
    • Will create individual goals for each person on the caseload based on the donor’s history of giving and the organization’s knowledge of that donor’s potential. Commitments from donors will range from $10,000 to $500,000.
    • Will create a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing plan for each person on the caseload. Will faithfully and on a timely basis execute that plan so that individuals on the caseload are retained and upgraded.
    • Will work with program and the marketing staff to secure appropriate project information to create offers, proposals and asks that will be used with persons on the caseload to secure gifts.
    • Will create monthly reports as required by management that accurately reflects caseload activity and performance.
    • Will attend all fundraising events and participate as needed.

    Education and Experience Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in individual gift cultivation and solicitation of large gifts ($100,000 or more) in the charitable sector, including cold calls, cultivation, and solicitation strategies. 
    • Experience in working in a small non-profit serving children or human services required.
    • Track record of cultivating and soliciting a portfolio of major donors. Must be able to show a demonstrated ability to have excellent relationship management skills.
    • This is a 32 hour/week role. Minimum of 2 days/week in the Waltham office. 
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Able to travel nationally 10% and regionally 30%. Work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
    • Computer literate including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer with the ability to learn new software applications.
    • Proficiency in a CRM is preferred, especially Salesforce.
