ABOUT US

The Organization for Prostitution Survivors (OPS) was founded by survivors of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) and allies to end the violence of prostitution and change cultural norms around oppression, exploitation, and violence against women. OPS provides services in three areas: (1) advocacy, harm reduction, and exit services for survivors; (2) education and training on CSE and changing cultural norms of gender-based violence; and (3) technical assistance and policy efforts to increase survivor access to social capital and political power, improve services for survivors, and end CSE. Around 80% of OPS staff are CSE survivors, and we prioritize elevating and empowering survivors across the organization, movement, and our communities.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES


Leadership/Management: 

  • Manages and supports the Operations and Drop In Coordinator 
  • Responsibility for monitoring and reporting on all aspects of operations (financial, HR, grant reporting) 
  • Helps plan, develop, and implement the strategic plan and annual budget with the Executive Director and Director of Survivor Services.
  • Assists with developing and reviewing partnerships, partnership contracts, and relationship management.


Financial

  • Manage Accounting emails
  • Maintain records of financial transactions via Quickbooks and liaise with OPS’ accountant to prepare monthly and annual financial statements.  
  • Submits documentation and communicates with OPS accountant and Executive Director to provide monthly information as necessary for financial, grant, and contract management
  • Oversee and Monitor spending on accounts for accurate grant allocation spending.
  • Report to the Executive Director any concerns in under/overspending on grant allocations and within budget items 


Database Management:

  • Oversee donor, volunteer, and fund tracking database using Apricot by inputting and updating accounts in a donor database. 
  • Create and send acknowledgments and information update requests for all community members/ donors.
  • Run reports of donor updates, acknowledgment, and pledge reminders 
  • Collaborate with the Leadership team and Board (as necessary) to develop and improve systems for tracking and managing donor, volunteer, and grant data


Administrative and Program Support:

  • Ensure timely payments for utility bills, rent, phone bills, internet fees, and other bills that keep the organization functioning smoothly and efficiently. 
  • Work with an accountant to develop and send invoices for payment
  • Ensure timely reporting for grants, including financial invoices and narrative requirements
  • Create policies and procedures around transferring, organizing, and maintaining organizational files and records, including physical files and online data management systems (e.g., GSuite, Apricot). 
  • Work with the Executive Director to update HR policies and procedures as needed.
  • Update policies and procedures around finances as needed with the Executive Director
  • Conduct an audit of all policies and procedures and report to the Executive Director with any updates needed.
  • Respond to administrative and program support requests from other staff utilizing Operations and Drop In Coordinator as appropriate.
  • Work with Operations and Drop-In Coordinator to maintain program and office supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies; and verifying receipt of supplies. 
  • Office technology: Maintain the effectiveness and integrity of office technology,  including software and hardware (e.g., computers, printers). Track OPS hardware that has been checked out of the office. 
  • Responsible for overseeing general building maintenance needs (cleaning schedule, alarm system, locks working, etc.).
  • Attends staff meetings and other required meetings as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned


Community Engagement:

  • In partnership with OPS leadership, increase organizational sustainability and capacity by building relationships with community members, volunteers, and individual/corporate donors.
  • Solicit monetary and in-kind donations from businesses and individuals for services and goods.
  • Develop relationships with partners and foster meaningful collaboration with supportive services for the drop-in center in conjunction with the Operations and Drop In Coordinator (e.g., legal advocacy, survivor-led workshops, medical services)
  • In collaboration with leadership and other OPS staff, help coordinate community engagement events,
  • Represent OPS at events, including tabling and community meetings, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Occasional Direct Service Duties

  • Answer and respond to calls and texts to the OPS helpline, conduct intakes, and provide resource information, referrals, and connections to appropriate direct service staff members.


General Staff Responsibilities:

  • Participate in community collaborations, trainings, meetings, and partnerships to ensure that participants have access to the most appropriate and culturally relevant resources and referrals.
  • Deliver all services and strategies in a manner that is culturally sensitive and centers the strengths and dignity of the person, and ensure encounters and interactions are respectful and responsive to the beliefs and practices, sexual orientations, disability statuses, age, gender identities, cultural preferences, and linguistic needs of all individuals.
  • Contribute as an active team player who values transparency and communication.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Willingness to take initiative and work both collectively and autonomously
  • Experience in utilizing de-escalation skills
  • Tech and computer skills (e.g., sending emails and files, fixing a photocopier, troubleshooting issues with online software and databases, etc.)
  • Empathetic and compassionate listener with the ability to problem-solve
  • Ability to stay grounded and calm for participants during crisis  
  • Ability to provide guided self-expression experiences to help clients recover from trauma
  • Knowledge of therapeutic and recovery support 
  • A working understanding of how trauma manifests in the body/mind and the ability to provide resources for clients with codependency, addiction, PTSD
  • A working knowledge of commercial sexual exploitation, gender-based violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, homelessness, and/or substance dependence 
  • Theoretical and/or experiential understanding of complex trauma and systemic oppression, particularly an understanding of sex/gender-based oppression, racism, and poverty. 
  • Flexible, self-starter, and a team player 
  • Effective written and verbal communication 
  • Passion to create social systems change, including the active dismantling of patriarchy, heterosexism, and classism 
  • Open to new ideas and communicating across differences 
  • Energetic optimist with a commitment to the mission of OPS 
  • Commits to remaining clean and sober at all times while on OPS premises or at OPS events  

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Understanding of CSE through lived experience and/or work/education history 
  • A combination of work experience lived experience, and education comparable to a BA in a social service or social science discipline.
  • One year of experience with program coordination
  • Knowledge of and experience utilizing relevant local referral services systems and resources
  • Experience partnering and networking with agencies on behalf of CSE or related issues


Transportation and Physical Requirements:

This role requires access to reliable transportation and an ability to perform moderate physical work.


Schedule:

The 36-hour work week is completed Monday through Friday, with the occasional evening or Saturday shift. OPS employees are currently working a mixture of remote and in-person shifts while our office is closed due to COVID-19 safety protocol. For this position, upon returning to in-person services, work will take place on-site Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am-6 pm. Outside of those hours, OPS staff can flex their remaining schedules as needed and appropriate. Standard work hours are between 10 am-6 pm. In-person work will include duties at our Burien office and outreach/partner meetings in Seattle. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
