    POSITION TITLE:   Development Director 

    DEPARTMENT:    Development

    REPORTS TO:     Executive Director

    TYPE:            Full Time, Exempt

    Position Summary: The Development Director is a dynamic, creative, and organized individual who is interested in helping Action Wellness, a mission-driven nonprofit, thrive and grow. This employee will be responsible for the planning, organization and implementation of all of Action Wellness’ fundraising efforts including annual giving, grant solicitation, compliance, and special events including the development of a comprehensive plan to achieve these initiatives. These initiatives also involve identifying and cultivating major gift prospects, as well as corporate and foundation donors.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Research potential donors, corporations and foundations to identify funding opportunities.
    2. Actively solicit and engage past, current, and potential donors of the agency.  
    3. Spearhead the development and writing of grant proposals including compliance to grant requirements.  
    4. Assist with the tracking of grants at all stages including grant reporting.  
    5. Conduct research on current and potential donors and funders including government agencies.  
    6. Lead special and signature events, including Dining Out for Life (DOFL), an annual fundraising event
    7.   Create and execute at least one more major event in addition to DOFL including:  
      • Provide logistics and event-day support
      • Coordinate with vendors and volunteers for various events
      • Support external and internal events and activities including attending meetings, correspondence and coordination with vendors, staff, volunteers; set-up and cleanup; organize and maintain files and records of all events and activities.
    8. Work in close collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Associate towards the goal of getting the agency widely known to donors, foundations, government partners and other key constituencies in order to increase revenue opportunities  
    9. Work closely with the Director of Volunteers as needed   
      1. Preform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

    Qualifications and Experience:

    1. Ability to convey a high degree of commitment and passion for Action Wellness and its mission
    2. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate information verbally confidently and clearly and in writing that are effective with a diverse range of audiences including board members, volunteers, staff, donors, potential funding partners and all other constituencies
    3. High level of attention to detail
    4. Imaginative, creative, and responsive attitude toward events management
    5. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
    6. Knowledge of grants management, research, proposal creation and reporting
    7. Knowledge of event management standards and trends, safety protocols and vendors
    8. Exceptional understanding of philanthropy as it relates to the non-profit arena and a wide and deep knowledge of fundamental disciplines of resource development
    9. The ability to work independently and as part of a team
    10. Exceptional donor service skills
    11. Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
    12. Self-motivated, good organizational, and strong interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines

    Requirements

    1. Bachelor’s degree preferably in non-profit management, business administration or related field
    2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in non-profit fundraising, event planning and management, and grant writing, solicitation and compliance  
    3. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    4. Knowledgeable about Salesforce, Hootsuite and WordPress  
    5. Well acquainted with Social Media and its fundraising potential   
    6. Comfortable working in a busy office environment
    7. Detail oriented and solution focused in executing projects/assignments

    Salary: Commiserate with Experience

    About: Action Wellness began as ActionAIDS in 1986. The agency was established by a group of dedicated volunteers in response to the AIDS epidemic. Today, Action Wellness positively impacts the lives of individuals with HIV, substance use disorder and other chronic illnesses by providing a range of trauma-informed, holistic services to help our clients achieve physical, emotional, and economic wellbeing. This is possible due to the collaborative efforts of our Board, donors, staff, volunteers, and other key stakeholders.

    Benefits

    Accrual Vacation Leave: is accrued on a semi-monthly basis. Accrual of time is suspended during a leave of absence. Vacation Leave and Extended Sick Leave, also called ESL, must be accrued before it is used. Vacation Leave hours accrue each month based on length of service. Full-time staff members accrue: • 80 hours during their first year of employment. • 120 hours during their second year of employment. • 160 hours during their third year of employment. • 200 hours during their fourth year of employment, and each year thereafter. Part-time staff members accrue Vacation Leave on a prorated basis.

    Sick Leave Account: The Philadelphia Sick Leave Ordinance states a staff member accrues 1 hour of Sick Leave for every 40 hours worked, earning a maximum of 40 hours for the year; however, the agency issues Sick Leave in advance at the full amount (40 hours) on July 1st or on hire date, to staff members to use during the year.

    Extended Sick Leave Account: Extended Sick Leave Account (ESL) provides additional paid time off for staff while they are on short or long-term disability. ESL is an agency benefit that is offered and is not mandated by the Department of Labor. Full-time staff members at Action Wellness earn 4 hours per month of Extended Sick Leave (ESL). Part-time staff members accrue ESL on a prorated basis. ESL balance accrues to a maximum of 500 hours. ESL may not be used for intermittent leave. ESL can be accessed to supplement Short or Long Term Disability payments, which are 60% of a staff member’s pay. Unused accrued ESL will not be paid out at time of employment separation. Vacation Leave and Extended Sick Leave will not accrue during periods of short and long term disability.

    Holidays: The following constitute paid annual holidays recognized by the agency: • Martin Luther King Day • President’s Day • Memorial Day • Juneteenth • Independence Day • Labor Day • Thanksgiving Day • The Day After Thanksgiving • Christmas Eve (1/2 Day) • Christmas Day • New Year’s Eve (1/2 Day) • New Year’s Day as well as summer Fridays (Memorial Day through Labor Day) we close at 3:00pm instead of 5:00pm.

    403B Retirement plan: We have a 403B plan (Pre-tax or ROTH option). After working for 1 year we match 50% up to 6% as the budget allows. For example, if you put in 4% the agency will match that with 2%, if you put in 6% the agency will match that with 3%, and if you put in 10% the agency will match that with 3% if the budget permits.
