    Salary is on a union scale based on years of experience. The salary range for an attorney with four to seven years of experience is $84,475-$94,061 and $62,736-$66,482 for an accredited counselor.

    Description

    Catholic Migration Services(“CMS”), an affiliated agency of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, provides high quality free legal services, community education, and advocacy for low-income immigrants residing in Brooklyn and Queens, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status. CMS assists individuals with their immigration, housing, and employment legal needs. CMS is committed to “welcoming the stranger in our midst”by serving and working alongside underserved immigrant communities to advance equality and social justice in an ever-changing landscape.

    CMS’ Naturalization Program annually assists hundreds of lawful permanent residents apply for citizenship before United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”). The Naturalization Supervisor will oversee the program, supervise members of the Naturalization team, and provide direct representation to clients. The Naturalization Supervisor will report to the Managing Attorney of the Immigration Unit.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Train, onboard, and supervise all members of our dynamic Naturalization team;
    • Regularly meet with each supervisee to answer legal questions and discuss caseloads;
    • Conduct eligibility screenings for immigration benefits, providing legal advice and information;
    • Provide direct N-400 naturalization application assistance, including form N-648 and criminal immigration analysis when necessary;
    • Provide N-600 application assistance, including helping applicants collect all required documentation for this application;
    • File N-336 appeals as well as I-90s as required;
    • Represent clients at USCIS interviews and respond to RFEs;
    • Maintain a caseload of other immigration matters, including asylum, U and T visas, adjustment of status, TPS, etc.;
    • Organize and lead regular meetings of our Naturalization team, develop staff work plans, and provide feedback on performance and caseloads of supervisees;
    • Train, onboard and supervise all volunteers;
    • Maintain client files and regularly update case information in CMS’ case management database;
    • Provide required information for internal and external reporting; and
    • Assume other duties as assigned.

The salary range for an attorney with four to seven years of experience is $84,475-$94,061 and $62,736-$66,482 for an accredited counselor.     Level of Language Proficiency

    Qualifications:

    • Required
    • JD from an accredited law school and admission to NYS Bar or partial DOJ accreditation;
    • Written and oral fluency in a 2nd language; Spanish preferred;
    • Minimum of four years’ experience practicing Immigration Law as an attorney or as an accredited Immigration Counselor;
    • Experience workingwith immigrants from diverse backgrounds and communities, including those who have experienced trauma;
    • Demonstrated abilityto take initiative and work independently or as part of a team;
    • Strong, clear, and effective communication skills;
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
    • Commitment to advocating for immigrant clientsin an empowering way;
    • Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs; and
    • Excellent computer skills.
