    Partnering with families, La Vida Scholars equips low-income, high-achieving students with access to resources and opportunities to enter top colleges and graduate with minimal to no debt.

    Position Overview

    La Vida Scholars seeks a part-time Finance Coordinator to join our team and support the financial health of our programs that serve 200+ high school students plus their families. Working in tandem with our Executive Leadership, this position will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting principles.

    Overall your three main priorities will be to 1) ensure monthly accuracy of the La Vida books, 2) support our annual audit process, and 3) produce financial reports as needed in order for senior management and the Board to fulfill their fiduciary oversight responsibilities.

    This is a flexible position that will be mostly remote, though there is a preference for this role to be available 2-3 days per month in the La Vida office in Lynn, MA.

    Educational Background & Work Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred, Associate’s degree or relevant experience will be considered
    • At least three years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
    • Non-profit accounting experience is a plus

    Primary Responsibilities

    Financial Management

    • Process monthly transactions, including accounts payable (invoice review, vendor setup, payment runs) and accounts receivable (invoices, payments, credit memos)
    • Act as the point of contact for accounts payable inquiries from staff and vendors
    • Create policies and procedures and maintain department files
    • Record journal entries and resolve discrepancies
    • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports
    • Monitor and manage the finance mailbox and review corporate credit card charges daily
    • Manage day-to-day finances in QuickBooks (or comparable software) including analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts and managing grant invoicing
    • Prepare bank reconciliations and other balance sheet analysis to ensure accuracy of balances
    • Collect grant agreements and monitor expenses as well as monthly invoicing
    • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned

    Budgeting

    • Collaborate with Executive team to prepare yearly budget of $1.4 million and growing
    • Oversee payables, receivables, liabilities, bank account reconciliations, cash flow projections, and journal entries
    • Assist with monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and the year-end closing process
    • Coordinate year-end finances for budgeting and reporting

    Audit

    • Be the main liaison with the La Vida’s accounting firm on the annual audit, filing of tax returns and filing of the employer 403b retirement account.
    • Support yearly preparation for books for the outside auditing firm

    Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience ($40-50 per hour).
