    Salary Range: $55,000-70,000

    Reports to the Executive Director

    Full time – Salaried

    Location: Remote based in Omaha or Lincoln, Nebraska with intentional in person convenings

    I Be Black Girl (IBBG) is a reproductive justice organization in Nebraska that leads withboldness, innovation and inspiration, actively creating a radical change-making culture that centers Black women, femmes and girls. Inspired by the work of bell hooks, Audre Lorde and other Black feminist and womanist, our organization provides transformational change at the intersections of gender and race. The term “I Be,” framed by author bell hooks in Be Boy Buzz, inspired IBBG’s founder to fill spaces with what it means to exist as a Black woman, femme or girl—where we are free to define and own that narrative.

    Position Overview

    The Community Organizer will play a key role in building political power within marginalized communities, intentionally for Black women, femmes and girls, to advance reproductive justice. The ideal candidate will be passionate about grassroots organizing, community mobilization, and advocacy, particularly in communities impacted by systemic oppression. The Community Organizer will work to build relationships, develop community leaders, and mobilize people to engage in civic actions that promote reproductive health, rights, and justice.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Community Engagement, Mobilization and Power Building

    • Build deep, trusting relationships with individuals and organizations in marginalized communities, including communities of color, low-income populations, immigrants, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and others impacted by reproductive injustice.
    • Organize and facilitate community meetings, town halls, and listening sessions to understand the needs, concerns, and priorities of these communities.
    • Mobilize community members to participate in direct actions, rallies, and campaigns advocating for reproductive justice centered policies.
    • Work with allied organizations to build coalitions around shared reproductive justice goals.
    • Manage the reproductive justice coalition
    • Identify and develop community leadership to advocate for reproductive justice within their own communities.
    • Provide training and mentorship on organizing, public speaking, lobbying, and civic engagement.
    • Support leaders in advocating for policy change at all levels of government

    Advocacy & Policy

    • Collaborate with policy staff to engage community members in legislative advocacy, including lobbying efforts, letter-writing campaigns, and public testimony.
    • Mobilize constituents in activities such as voter registration, education, and turnout efforts that support reproductive justice issues

    Strategic Campaigns

    • Design and execute strategic organizing campaigns that align with the organization’s reproductive justice goals.
    • Use data to analyze community needs and inform organizing strategies.
    • Create compelling narratives that uplift the voices of marginalized communities and highlight the intersectional nature of reproductive justice.
    • Track data of campaigns and impact using software systems like VAN

    Qualifications:

    • 1-3 years in grassroots organizing, political advocacy, or community engagement, particularly in marginalized communities.
    • Passion for reproductive justice and a deep understanding of how issues of race, gender, economic inequity, and health intersect.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build trust and relationships across diverse communities.
    • 1-3 years experience developing community leaders and providing training on civic engagement and organizing.
    • Commitment to a justice-centered approach that prioritizes the leadership of those most affected by reproductive and systemic injustice.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, coalition partners, and policy makers.

    Other Requirements

    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary.
    • Access to reliable transportation for community outreach and organizing activities.
    • Familiarity with digital organizing tools and platforms is a plus.
