    Director of Development/Advancement

    Reports to: President 

    Location: Cristo Rey De La Salle High School, Oakland, CA

    Status: This is a Full time, Exempt position

    Essential Responsibilities and Expectations:

    The Director will:

    • Be responsible for specific annual gift and grant goals.  
    • Provide leadership for securing major gift donations and grants.  
    • Develop, foster, and maintain strong relationships with high-net-worth (HNW) individuals, corporate leaders and philanthropic communities. 
    • Research the missions and funding priorities of foundations and other grant-making institutions and HNW individuals in accordance with the mission and overall marketing strategy of the school. 
    • Identify specific donors and establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with donors and with foundation and program officers.
    • Develop, implement and manage the grant proposals process and write grant proposals, persuasively communicating the school’s mission and needs to potential funders. 
    • Work with the school President to develop annual and long-term strategic fundraising plans and goals.  
    • Plan and execute fundraising and donor cultivation events throughout the year.
    • Work closely with the President to successfully execute the school’s overall marketing, communications and PR strategies across various disciplines and target audiences.
    • Develop and cultivate new and unique fundraising opportunities.
    • Provide comprehensive Management Reporting for President and Board of Trustees
    • Using development software, provide ongoing updates to donor profiles and fundraising steps on a weekly basis. 
    • Represent the school at key public functions and develop important community connections.
    • Perform other duties and special projects as requested.
    • Assist with the preparation and delivery of fundraising strategies and advancement activities: individual and institutional giving through all channels, including direct mail, online giving, social media and major donor initiatives.
    • Monitor Annual Fund progress and provide timely reports. 
    • Manage the development budget, gift processing, acknowledgements and support staff/volunteers in these activities.
    • Participate and oversee database management, updates and report generation. We do not have dedicated database staff. 
    • Manage the grants pipeline, relationship with contract grant writer/researcher. As necessary, develop proposals and conduct research.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience in fund development with quantifiable track record of successful results.
    • Annual Fund/campaign concept development; collateral materials development and production, annual fund plan strategy and execution 
    • Experience with major donor cultivation with quantifiable track record of successful results. Familiarity with relational database software required - experience with Donor Perfect preferred. 
    • Strategic thinker with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must be adept and at ease with donor solicitations.
    • Experience with grant writing.
    • Experience in major fundraising, event planning, orchestration and execution.
    • Experience in volunteer management.
    • Skilled in use of Microsoft Office Suite required/Google Suite preferred. 
    • BA degree 
    • Focused, goal oriented professional, eager to achieve specific fundraising goals.
    • Ability to work with grace under pressure. 
    • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple initiatives and projects.
    • Well organized
    • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
    • Must maintain strict confidentiality related to students, school families, alumni, donors and donor prospects.

    Works With: 

    Internally:  

    • School President, Board of Directors, advancement team, school and administrative staff, faculty, volunteers, students and school families. 

    Externally:

    • High net worth individual donors, community leaders, non-profit organization leaders, senior executives and key corporate contacts, foundations and public sector funding entities. Others as identified.

    Compensation and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with experience, in a range from $110,000-$150,000. Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School offers an excellent benefits package and a salary that is commensurate with experience and education.
