    Description

    A House on Beekman is seeking a lead preschool teacher to join our team of passionate, nurturing, trauma-informed teachers in our small, community-based non-profit preschool. We provide high quality early childhood programming for children in the South Bronx, preparing children for a strong and successful academic journey. Lead teachers will ensure that exceptional instruction and communication with families is happening in each classroom in order to reach our mission.

    A House on Beekman (AHOB) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides programming for all age groups, birth-12th grade, along with program opportunities for the entire family. We are currently hiring a lead teacher for our preschool program for fiscal year 2024-2025.

    Preschool Program Objectives

    • Age-appropriate instruction fosters the development of pre-academic skills.
    • Children are engaged in an experiential environment that facilitates explorative, investigative learning.
    • Children are equipped with the ability to express and manage emotions and develop meaningful relationships with peers.
    • Families are supported to ensure participation in their child's development.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Experience implementing high-quality, age-appropriate curriculum.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with culturally, ethnically and socio-economically diverse groups of stakeholders (staff, students, parents).
    • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of A House on Beekman.
    • Comfortability teaching general education and individuals with learning challenges within an inclusive classroom.
    • Outstanding organizational skills.
    • Ability to handle many responsibilities simultaneously.
    • Ability to write age-appropriate and differentiated lesson plans.
    • Ability to document and display students’ classroom experiences and growth.
    • Ability to promptly handle unanticipated situations or emergencies as they arise.
    • Excellent communication skills.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure that your classroom setting and routines are providing high-quality instruction that meet DOE/DOHMH requirements.
    • Adhere to A House on Beekman’s philosophy of education.
    • Maintain a nurturing learning environment while ensuring children’s safety and welfare at all times.
    • Document student growth according to DOE and AHOB requirements.
    • Collaborate with and mentor assistant teachers in the development of classroom projects and lesson plans.
    • Collaborate with other preschool lead teachers and AHOB staff.
    • Build and maintain relationships with students and their families.
    • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.
    • Attend all professional development workshops and trainings.

    Expected Work Schedule

    This is a full-time, year-round position working 40 hours a week. Majority of DOE holidays/breaks observed.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education OR Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with a state-approved study plan toward Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education OR
    • NYSED Certification in Birth-2nd grade OR plan for certification within 3 years of hire date
    • At least two years of experience working with children 0-5 years old

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/printers and filing cabinets.

    Travel

    There will be occasional travel, usually within the city, for professional development meetings and conferences.

    Must be able to meet the physical demands necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    Pay: $50,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
