    Position Description

    Assists the Executive Director in overseeing the operation of Bethany House Ministries, including The Bethany House of Hope and The Bethany House Hope Chest. BethanyHouse was established out of and continues to serve out of the Catholic/Christian tradition. We are open to people of diverse faith traditions who share in our values and mission. The assistant executive director reports directly to the Executive Director. We are especially interested in candidates with prison ministry experience who will bring a spiritual component to their work at Bethany House.

    The Bethany House of Hope

    The Bethany House of Hope is a transitional sober living community that can accommodate up to four women at one time. The House of Hope is designed to meet the unique needs of recovering Men or Women—especially those with experience with the carceral system— in a structured, supportive, and safe environment. In addition, Bethany House regularly hosts community building events for residents, staff, prison volunteers, and others associated with the wider Bethany

    Community.

    The Bethany House Hope Chest

    The Bethany House Hope Chest is a boutique thrift store that has an eclectic ensemble of treasures. Our volunteers and staff run the shop, which provide a   gateway for items of value to those who are in search of a bargain.

    All proceeds from the Hope Chest go toward sustaining the mission of Bethany House Ministries.

    Mission

    Our goal is to create a compassionate, healing environment of hope and to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to those facing challenges, especially those impacted by the harsh realities of prison.


    Vision

    Bethany House Ministries is rooted in the Gospel and in the spirit of Blessed Jean  Joseph Lataste, OP who recognized in his work with prisoners that God’s love has  the power to heal, transform, and renew those who may have seemed hopeless to  many. Bethany House Ministries fosters a compassionate and just world by being a community that stands in solidarity with those who are marginalized.

    The Assistant Executive Director's duties are to assist the

    Executive Director with the following:

    1.    Provide spiritual ministry to returning residents in the Bethany House community and provide re-entry coordination for those soon to be released from prison.

    2.    Screen applicants and provide a respectful and welcoming climate for the residents of the Bethany House of Hope while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

    3.    Assist with planning community events.

    4.    Assist with fundraising activities help keep records.

    5.   Assist the Executive Director with overseeing operation of the Hope Chest, and recruiting and orienting volunteers

    6.    Coordinate Christmas packages for incarcerated men, working with parole officers, prison officials and other social service agencies.

    7.     Coordinate with other service providers to assist people who are seeking additional services.

    8.    Maintain upkeep of house of House of Hope including coordinating and arranging maintenance, and cleaning.

    9.    On occasion, provide transportation for house residents using a Bethany House vehicle.

    Required skills:

    ●      Bachelors degree or substantial experience with people experiencing incarceration and/or addiction or equivalent experience

    ●       Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    ●       Previous experience and/or comfort with volunteering in incarceral settings. 

    ●      Ability to contribute to the spiritual mission of the Bethany Community.

    ●      Valid driver’s license

    ●      Ability to be flexible, working independently and as part of a team

    ●      Planning and organizational skills

    ●      Experience with planning community events preferred

    ●      Fundraising experience preferred

    ●      Computer literacy and experience with Quickbooks and Microsoft Office suite .

    ●      CPR certification or willingness to acquire.
