    Harlem Grown’s mission is to inspire youth to live healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition.

    Harlem Grown operates 13 urban agricultural sites featuring 5 soil-based urban farms, 4 school gardens, 3 hydroponic greenhouses, and a mushroom chamber. All of our sites are located between 122 and 152 Streets in Central Harlem, Manhattan.

    Since 2021, our programming has served over 10,000 youth in Harlem, we've produced and distributed over 100,000 servings of food, and diverted over 50,000 pounds of food scraps into local compost operations.

    Our Programs

    Harlem Grown provides youth and community development programs focused on urban farming, wellness, and sustainability through the lens of racial justice, food justice, social justice, and equity. Our youth focused programs include intensive school partnerships, educational farm tours, a summer camp, a Saturday enrichment program, monthly community events, an afterschool program, and our Mobile Teaching Kitchen. Our community development programs open to all ages include wellness workshops, special events, food scrap collection for composting, and fresh produce distribution to participants, volunteers, and neighborhood residents.

    Role Overview

    Reporting to our Operations Director, the Human Resources Coordinator will play an integral role within the human resources function including new hire onboarding, performance reviews, compliance as well as employee support. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join a dynamic team and support the mission and values of Harlem Grown through effective HR practices and programs.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure data is accurately collected during recruitment and interviewing processes by maintaining our Greenhouse candidate scorecards, interview notes, and other relevant information
    • Provide operational support for recruiting including job description preparation, job postings, scheduling interviews and drafting offer letter paperwork
    • Re-assign recurring compliance tasks to all or selected staff in our Greenhouse recruiting and onboarding platform system as needed
    • Work closely with the leadership team to support and manage the new hire onboarding including background checks, new hire paperwork and communications
    • Ensuring an accurate synchronization from our Greenhouse recruiting and onboarding software to ADP Workforce Now for all new hires
    • Keep ADP and employee files up to date with all most recent employee information, compensation, documents, and compliance documentation
    • Perform timecard, security log, and time off audits to ensure proper documentation of those systems.
    • Administer Harlem Grown’s employee benefit program including ensuring 100% participation in open enrollment, accessibility of plan documentation, support with filing claims and communicating with insurance companies/brokers
    • Administer semi-monthly payroll, ensuring that all employees are paid the correct amount, on-time, every time
    • Project manage ad-hoc and periodic compliance projects such as yearly sexual harassment trainings, policy and compensation acknowledgements staff certifications with the Office of Children and Family Services, insurance audits, etc.
    • Collaborate with our Chief of Staff to coordinate our internal talent processes, including our performance reviews, professional development plans, and culture surveys
    • Support the Chief of Staff on organization-wide culture initiatives and their administration (such as summer Fridays, team gatherings and meals, staff gifts and other incentives, etc.)
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for HR requests such as benefits updates, policy questions, and other employee inquiries promptly and effectively
    • Provide general HR support to employees and manager on HR policies and procedures
    • Complete and coordinate special projects and other tasks as requested
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree along with 4-5+ year(s) of experience in a Human Resources/administrative position
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Strong organizational skills with with a keen attention to detail
    • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
    • Familiarity with recruiting technology software a plus
    • Strong logical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion

    This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

    Compensation Range

    $27 - $29 USD
