Description

Position Overview:

The Food Crew Lead is a crucial player in our support staffing at Summer Camp. They are responsible for planning and managing the execution of our daily volunteer meals and camper snacks at Summer Camp by leading a team of Food Crew volunteers. The Food Crew Lead will be responsible for feeding approximately 50 volunteers (breakfast, lunch and snacks) and up to 90 campers (snacks only) per day. They will also work with the Co-Program Managers and Front Desk on any necessary camper food intervention at Summer Camp.

Position Responsibilities:

Before Camp: ~20 hours

  • Work with RCRC Staff to create a detailed meal plan for the week of Summer Camp that falls within the budget
  • Reach out to local restaurants to secure in-kind food donations
  • Work with Co-Program Managers to develop a staffing plan for the kitchen
  • Attend and help with All Volunteer Training on July 8th, 10am-2pm (4 hours)
  • During Set-Up of Summer Camp site on July 13th, 10am-4pm, set up kitchen and do all necessary shopping (6 hours)

At Camp: July 15th-20th, 40 hours

  • Follow predetermined meal plan for volunteer meals and camper snacks, while making adjustments as necessary within budget requirements
  • Supervise Food Crew during meal prep times, ensure the availability of coffee/water and volunteer snacks during all times at camp
  • Ensure that meals and snacks are ready and available on schedule
  • Ensure that the kitchen area (prep surfaces, refrigerator, any stoves/crock pots etc) remains clean and safe for the duration of camp

After Camp

  • Debrief with Co-Program Managers
  • Provide indication of your intent to return in 2025

The Ideal Food Coordinator Lead:

  • Has some experience in a commercial or camp food service setting
  • Has experience making large amounts of food (50+ people daily)
  • Excels at working with a small team under tight timelines
  • Is knowledgeable about cross-contamination and safe handling for meat/seafood
  • Has a WA State Food Handler’s Permit
  • Has access to a vehicle for food shopping previous to and at camp

Compensation:

  • Pay of $20 per hour for a maximum of 40 hours per week; approximately 60 hours total
