PROGRAM OFFICER/SENIOR PROGRAM OFFICER, Nuclear Materials Security (NMS)

The Nuclear Threat Initiative is seeking a Program Officer (PO) or Senior Program Officer (SPO) (title to be determined based on candidate experience) to join the Nuclear Materials Security (NMS) team. This position reports to the Vice President for NMS.  This is a full-time hybrid position, working a minimum of three days a week in our Washington, DC office.   

NTI is a non-profit whose mission is to transform global security by driving systemic solutions to nuclear and biological threats imperiling humanity. 

This selected candidate will help lead NMS efforts to improve global nuclear materials security, including in the area of nuclear energy.  This will include:   

• Developing and implementing activities related to securing, reducing, and safeguarding special nuclear materials.

• Developing and implementing activities related to the responsible expansion of nuclear energy.  

• Developing and implementing activities related to building capacity in international institutions related to nuclear security.

• Representing NTI at professional conferences and international diplomatic meetings.

• Planning and implementing NMS program activities, including establishing milestones and mitigating project risks, as well as other project management tasks.

• Supporting programmatic/cross-programmatic efforts to ensure the achievement of NTI objectives.  

• Providing support to other NMS projects, as needed.


What are the requirements for the position?  Preferred candidates will have:

• A bachelors’ degree, masters preferred, in a relevant field (e.g., international relations/affairs, political science, physics, or a related field) and 

• At least 3-6 years of related experience, in an international organization, government, non-profit, or private sector.
