    Description

    The Youth Development Recruitment Associate position is ideal for someone with strong communication and organizational skills who enjoys working with young people and is excited to help open doors of opportunity for youth employed by Read Alliance as individual reading tutors. The Youth Development Recruitment Associate will work closely with the Youth Development Team to recruit and train youth for the Teen Leader role and to plan and execute engaging Teen Leadership Program activities. One of the greatest priorities of this role will be to lead the recruitment and enrollment process of Teen Leaders, ensuring all paperwork and onboarding is completed before the Teen Leaders’ employment begins. 

    The Youth Development Recruitment Associate position requires experience working with young people and must enjoy the opportunity to do so. They must possess a warmth and appreciation for youth and believe in their potential to achieve. The person in this role must be comfortable working independently and collaboratively, possess knowledge and comfort learning and navigating a database, possess commitment to time management, take initiative to problem solve, and possess critical attention to detail. The Youth Development Recruitment Associate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills.

    Responsibilities

    • Plan and implement ongoing enhancements to strengthen the recruitment and enrollment process of youth into the Teen Leader role
    • Maintain ongoing communication with Teen Leaders regarding their onboarding process
    • Coordinate with Youth Development Staff to ensure that Teen Leader personnel files are created and maintained in accordance with federal and state compliance guidelines.
    • Monitor READ Alliance database(s) to ensure that Teen Leader information is entered accurately.
    • Act as point of communication with Program Managers to ensure that they are updated about any Teen Leader with incomplete onboarding paperwork
    • Act as the point of communication with partner High Schools to plan and execute recruitment efforts for the Teen Leader role
    • Assist with recruitment and training of young people for the role of Teen Leader (individual reading tutors for younger students)
    • Assist Youth Development team in the planning and implementation of Teen Leadership Programming, including workshops and activities that complement the paid work experience
    • Other administrative duties, as assigned, to support the payroll process

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred
    • Previous experience as a READ Teen Leader preferred
    • Must be willing to explore and initiate progressive ways to support the Teen Leader recruitment process
    • Experience working with teens required
    • Highly committed to READ’s mission
    • Strong organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills
    • Strong proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Experience with a database system, strongly preferred
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills

    Physical Demands/Work Environment

    Business office environment. Significant travel is required to program sites within New York City’s five Boroughs.
