    Your Role with GWI

Our new Operations & Fiscal Sponsorship Manager will divide their time between overseeing our fiscal sponsorship project and supporting the on-going operational management of GWI. Given these two roles, the Manager will work closely with two GWI Worker Trustees, our Fiscal Sponsorship Steward and our Operations Steward, to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the work.

Fiscal Sponsorship Management (estimated at 70% of time)

The GWI Fiscal Sponsorship Program was started in 2018, and has since provided fiscal sponsorship to over 30 projects, helping to facilitate over $8.5 million in philanthropic funding. The Manager will serve as our primary point person for all active and potential projects, processing applications, approving and processing funding requests, and accurately tracking and reporting on revenue raised through the program. GWI also has exciting plans to expand our program to include comprehensive fiscal sponsorship, a new form of service that provides a deeper level of support to aligned projects. The Manager will work closely with the General Circle and Fiscal Sponsorship Steward to build out this new program strategy and implementation plan. Core accountabilities include:

    • Supporting prospective projects in the application process and serve as the intake and onboarding manager for all new projects.
    • Serving as the primary point of contact for between 10-15 fiscally sponsored project organizations, with a regular schedule of project check-ins.
    • Managing all fiscal sponsorship documentation and financial management, including revenue tracking, grant request processing, and annual reporting.
    • Working with the Operations Steward and external finance team to ensure all fiscal sponsorship financial transactions are accurately represented on our books and financial statements.
    • Work with the Fiscal Sponsorship Steward to compile existing policies into a program manual and identify policy gaps.
    • Help build out a multi-year strategic program plan to help support the expansion of the GWI Fiscal Sponsorship Program.

GWI Operations Management (estimated at 30% of time)

The Manager will quickly take the reins of our regular operational management, working with all Workers and Worker Trustees to ensure our internal systems are operating smoothly, efficiently, and according to our organizational policies. The Manager will also support the creation and presentation of financial and operational reporting to ensure the General Circle and Board of Directors understand the current state of our operations. The Manager will work closely with the Operations Steward, who will provide support and facilitation, ensuring that the Manager has the resources they need to hold our internal processes with care. Core accountabilities include:

    • Working with our external financial team on monthly, quarterly, and annual close out processes to ensure our books and reports accurately reflect our financial performance.
    • Working with all GWI Workers and Worker Trustees on the operations of internal systems, including procurement, expense tracking, and time allocation.
    • Working with the Operations Steward to compile quarterly financial reports and support the presentation and analysis alongside Worker Trustees and the Board of Directors.
    • Supporting the Operations Steward through the annual budgeting process, compiling financial reports and developing financial modeling and scenario planning worksheets.
    • Serving as the primary point person for our HR and payroll partner, Justworks.

    Who is GWI?

Can we imagine an economy centered on caring about our needs and the needs of our shared home, the earth? The root meaning of economy is management of home: how we organize our relationships in a place to take care of the place and each other. Just Transition invites us to align our good work with this kind of regenerative economy, governed by deep democracy. Well-being for people and the planet entails learning ways of working with - and not against - one another in relationships, decision-making, and sharing resources and power. The Good Work Institute aims to democratize communities, wealth and work by fostering:

    • Participation: practicing deep democracy to have voice and influence in decisions affecting our lives and communities
    • Resilience: developing collaborative communication skills to navigate inevitable tension and conflict in our working relationships
    • Belonging: acknowledging unequal societal power relations and taking action aligned with racial justice and social equity

GWI is a Worker Self-Directed Nonprofit, which is a democratic, shared leadership model that allows significant autonomy and flexibility. Our General Circle, the organizational unit tasked with overseeing our work, is currently made up of 4 Worker Trustees, with a combined 25 years of experience working with the Good Work Institute. Our internal structure and operations are as much a part of our mission as our program work, and as such we value and cultivate a culture of care and community.

Our working style as an organization is playful and collaborative. All Workers operate with a high degree of autonomy and independence. We believe that our new colleague will align with this approach, while also bringing an openness to learning and adapting to the GWI way of work!

The Good Work Institute is an equal opportunity employer. We wholly comply with the equal treatment of all employees and applicants for employment without unlawful discrimination as to an individual’s perceived or actual race, creed, color, national origin, citizenship status, gender, gender identity, age, disability, marital status, partnership status, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or veteran status in all employment decisions, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, compensation, training and apprenticeship, promotion, upgrading, demotion, downgrading, transfer, layoff and termination and all other terms and conditions of employment.
