    Description

    A growing nonprofit organization working to modernize U.S. democratic institutions against polarization is seeking a committed and talented individual with strong research, communications, and organizational skills, a solid understanding of U.S. election administration, and a commitment to nonpartisanship, for the position of Democracy Research Manager.

    Election Reformers Network (ERN) is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) advocacy organization founded in 2017 by election experts with extensive reform experience in the U.S. and overseas. ERN actively supports systemic reforms such as independent redistricting and impartial election administration.

    POSITION SUMMARY 

    Election Reformers Network is seeking a full-time Research Manager to lead a portfolio of research projects in support of ERN’s reform agenda; manage communications on social media and the web; and share in building a highly innovative, collaborative, and effective organization. Roles and responsibilities will likely include: 

    • Leading the design and implementation of research projects.  
    • projects likely to include: analyzing the risk of conflict of interest in state and county election governance structures; researching the legislative history of important developments in state election management; and tracking state and federal bills introduced in key reform areas.  
    • Support in preparing reports, op-eds, newsletter articles, and PowerPoint presentations; 
    • Involvement with in-state reform monitoring and coalition building, particularly with youth and student organizations; 
    • Communication functions including:  
    • Regular content management of the organization’s website, and project management of larger website changes;  
    • Managing communications on social media channels.  

    The specialist will work remotely (ERN is an entirely remote organizations) and report to the Executive Director (based in Newton, MA).  The position offers a salary to be determined, competitive with similar nonprofit positions.

ERN is committed to developing election solutions that can gain support from a wide range of political perspectives; for that reason, it is essential that the candidate be open-minded, non-dogmatic, and skilled at understanding and working with a wide range of people and perspectives.  

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED: 

    • Deep passion for strengthening American democracy, and a commensurate ability to understand different political perspectives and work toward broadly supported solutions 
    • 2+ years’ work experience in election administration or election law, or with a state legislature or state legislation advocacy organization. 
    • Bachelor’s degree required; political science, history, or similar major preferred 
    • Demonstrated experience in research related to state laws 
    • Strong familiarity with election administration 
    • Experience with website management 
    • Experience with organizational-level social media communications 
    • Strong analytical and communication skills (particularly writing and PowerPoint) 
    • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and 
    • Flexibility and initiative to work both independently and as part of a team.
