    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Director of Philanthropy is a senior-level professional who leads all fundraising activities for Judi’s House and JAG Institute. As a Judi’s House Leadership Team member, this person exemplifies excellent communication, relationship building, and strategic thinking skills. They have a proven track record overseeing development in a non-profit setting and strong management skills. The Director of Philanthropy leads the development and implementation of the fundraising strategy for the organization. They oversee all components that drive a culture of philanthropy at Judi’s House, including but not limited to: major and planned gifts, grant writing and institutional relationship management, fundraising and donor appreciation events, and annual giving. The Director of Philanthropy partners with the Executive Committee, Board Chair, Board Members, and staff to foster effective donor cultivation and stewardship practices that nurture key philanthropic relationships and has the exciting opportunity to curate a fundraising infrastructure that enables the organization’s future growth. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Strategy 

    • Lead efforts to raise funds and awareness in support of the organization’s three core strategic initiatives: Direct Service, Evaluation and Research, and Training and Education. 
    • Create, implement and oversee a comprehensive fundraising strategy designed to meet annual and long-term financial viability and stability goals and objectives.
    • Keep abreast of nonprofit fundraising trends and developments.

    Finance and Reporting

    •  Develop and manage the organization’s annual revenue budget, ensuring all funds raised are accounted for, donor information is accurately recorded in the donor database, secure controls are in place, and records are routinely reconciled with the Finance team.
    • Set and achieve annual revenue goals that align with the organization’s overall strategy.
    • Measure and analyze results of fundraising initiatives to ensure goals are accomplished and campaigns are optimized; provide the Leadership Team and Board with regular forecasting reports, including pending and successful solicitation efforts and actual to-budget revenue goals.
    • Present to the Board of Directors at quarterly meetings and serve on relevant board committees.

    Management

    •  Effectively select, manage, coach, and assess the performance of development staff to foster a dynamic and engaged team that consistently meets or exceeds fundraising goals.
    • Assist CEO and Board Chair in supporting each board member to accomplish their annual goals.
    • Facilitate and coordinate the Fundraising and Development Committee with the committee chair, including preparing agendas/meeting materials, participating in meetings, and following up on next steps. 

    Fundraising

    •  Lead the development team in implementing identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities that strengthen long-term relationships with current and new donors.
    • Maintain a portfolio of key major individual donors, corporations, and foundations. 
    • Oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of all fundraising events, including solicitation of in-kind donations and sponsorships.
    • Oversee the Development & Communication Coordinator’s design and implementation of donor-facing communications, prospect inquiries, donor gift proposals, etc.
    • Use data-driven approach to ensure all fundraising data and activity is captured and informs fundraising strategy and activity.
    • Oversee development operations that prioritize consistent processes and best practices to recognize, steward, and cultivate donors. 

    OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Attend team and organizational meetings, activities, and events as required.
    • Promote the values of JH/JAG throughout the organization and external relationships.
    • Collaborate with JH/JAG staff and perform job duties to advance the organization’s mission and vision.
    • Demonstrate ability to work independently and within a team and seek guidance as appropriate.
    • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

    • Supervise and manage all Development team staff.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. 

    This position is eligible to work remotely up to one day per week at the manager’s discretion.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising. 
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in major gifts fundraising with demonstrated success in soliciting high net-worth donors (six-figures and above) and securing corporate and foundation gifts and grants.
    • Minimum of 2 years managing a team and serving in a leadership capacity.

    • Experienced leader who can motivate and develop staff and supporters to maximize current impact and future growth.
    • Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills, with a demonstrated record of success in nonprofit development. 
    • Solution-oriented leader who leverages data in decision-making and remains flexible and organized under pressure. 
    • Strategic and tactical thinker who can convert ideas into action. 
    • Excellent communicator with ease in connecting with a wide range of stakeholders including high net-worth individuals, corporate leaders, grassroots volunteers, and others. 
    • Superior writing and editing skills with high attention to detail. 
    • Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. 
    • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, deadlines, and constituents—completing projects on time, on budget, under pressure, and with diplomacy. 
    • Respectful and thoughtful about Judi’s House mission and its intersection with development activities. 
    • Outstanding listener who can relay our story with respect and compassion.
    • Experience managing or overseeing a CRM; experience in Raiser’s Edge preferred. 

    Physical Requirements

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time. 

    Other Requirements

    • Must possess a driver's license and at least the required minimum of automobile insurance, clear DMV driving record, and ability to provide own transportation.
