AmeriCorps Mediation Specialist

AmeriCorps Position Type: Full-Time

Service Term Length: August, 15, 2024, to July 11, 2025

Locations: Postions available in the following cities in MARYLAND - Bethesda, Chestertown, Columbia, Easton, Greenbelt, Hagerstown, Salisbury, Westminster & MASSACHUSETTS - Boston, Beverly, Natick.

Community Mediation Corps, Community Mediation Maryland's National AmeriCorps Program, engages the community to actualize social change, remove barriers to community mediation, and increase the number of mediations for those who live, work, or attend school in Maryland, Massachusetts, and North Carolina.

Community mediation provides an opportunity for people in conflict to have difficult conversations with the help of non-judgmental mediators. Mediation allows everyone involved to talk about their experiences, be heard by each other, and establish a plan on how to move forward productively. 

Essential Functions:

  • Serve Monday-Friday at a local mediation center in Maryland, Massachusetts, or North Carolina
  • Complete the 50 hour Basic Mediation Training (training provided in Maryland)
  • Complete all required Advanced Mediation Trainings (training provided in Maryland)
  • Mediate cases for community members, schools, correctional facilites, and local agencies
  • Assist with all aspects of case management including intake and mediation coordination
  • Submit quarterly AmeriCorps data collection requirements
  • Participate in service activites for Conflict Resolution Day, 9/11, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and AmeriCorps Week
  • Act in accordance with AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps program, and Service Site code of conduct

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident, and be at least 17 years old with a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • Are passionate about serving the community through direct service
  • Desire to gain hands-on experience in conflict resolution and nonprofits
  • Ability to work well with people of diverse opinions, experience, and backgrounds
  • Ability to read and write
  • Are willing to solve problems collaboratively 
  • Possess basic computer skills
