    Job Description

    The Manager of Institutional Giving performs a wide variety of grant application and report writing and related services in support of UCP Seguin’s comprehensive institutional giving program to help meet the program’s ambitious annual operating, campaign, and special project goals. The Manager of Institutional Giving is primarily responsible for assisting in the planning, management, and coordination of the institutional grants solicitation process; identifying, researching, and contacting new, current, and previous institutional funding entities; writing institutional grant requests (e.g., online and paper-based applications, proposals, letters of inquiry, etc.) and preparing related support materials for such solicitations; developing grant reports to corporate and foundation funders and other entities as requested; and, performing other institutional grant-related activities as assigned.

    The Manager of Institutional Giving will approach the following categories of institutional giving sources utilizing the various mechanisms as stated below:

    • Corporations, foundations, donor-advised funds, business and social organizations, and other private entities through grant requests and reports
    • State and federal agencies (e.g., Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities, Illinois Housing Development Authority, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Congressional Community Project Funding, etc.) via competitive grant requests and reports
    • County and municipal government agencies (e.g., Community Development Block Grants and other funding opportunities) through grant requests and reports
    • Local township 708 community mental health authorities via grant requests and reports
    • United Way through grant requests and reports

    ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Manager of Institutional Giving's primary role is to assist the Director of Institutional Giving in her/his efforts to secure financial donations from institutional philanthropic partners and sources – including foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other sources – that help UCP Seguin achieve its strategic and organizational goals.

    The Manager of Institutional Giving’s responsibilities are to:

    • Help develop and implement an annual grant submission plan based on sustaining current funders while exploring new opportunities in sync with the organization’s current Strategic Initiatives and identified needs.
    • Work as directed with appropriate organizational staff to develop preliminary project/program descriptions, outcomes, budgets, and other materials for various grant requests before submission and with the same parties upon funding approval to ensure proper reporting on funded projects/programs.
    • Act as a lead grant writer, crafting compelling proposals communicating UCP Seguin’s mission and goals.
    • Oversee the submission workflow for new and continuation grants.
    • Maintain an accurate database of activities related to grant application and report development and submission using GrantNavigator.
    • Communicate with program officers of funding agencies and sources, external partners engaged in proposal development, and appropriate agency staff to facilitate grants development and management only as expressly directed by the Director of Institutional Giving.
    • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to identify and select potential funding sources, including corporations, private foundations, and public funding agencies, especially those whose mission, priorities, and funding programs match our Agency’s interests and needs.
    • Represent UCP Seguin as needed at funder site visits and events/consortia gatherings conducted by public and private funders.
    • Work with other support departments (Finance, Property Management, HR, etc.) to provide and secure information associated with funding entities, auditors, and other outside parties.
    • Provide input to the Director of Institutional Giving as part of the annual budgeting process to project grant funding streams and anticipated revenue.
    • Maintain complete electronic and hard-copy files on all grants and supporting documentation.
    • As a Development team member, support events, tours, and other stewardship activities.
    • Other duties as assigned.
