Job Description
Spanish-Speaking Victim Advocate
This position provides direct services to victims of crime/witnesses of crime and their families, focusing on but not limited to those from Latinx communities, distributes information on Central Division Victim Services and on the criminal justice system, connects victims to resources and files crime victim compensation claims, and performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for CDVS’ program initiatives and outcomes, including but not limited to: achieving program standards for all funding sources, ensuring service quality by maintaining program measurements, data and documentation and documenting client impact stories that will support CDVS’ programs as needed
- Advocate for crime victims’ rights and services including but not limited to: assessing clients’ needs and assisting crime victims to get resources that will aid in their recovery from victimization; maintaining strong relationships with clients; accompanying clients through all aspects of the criminal justice system (including preliminary hearings and trials) as needed
- Provide community awareness of victims’ rights and services by attending and organizing regular community outreach events and meetings
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant professionals for advocating and mobilizing resources for clients including:
- Community-based, ethnic and immigration social service agencies for referrals and other supportive services when needed.
- Staff from City and State government agencies especially those from Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, local Police Officers and representatives from medical and counseling service providers
- Manage crime victim compensation case files including but not limited to: conducting an initial screening for eligibility, providing clients with application forms and information when appropriate, assisting clients to navigate the compensation program, conducting follow-up, and filing related documents
- Provide home and/or hospital visits when necessary
- Complete all government required training for relevant programs
- Additional victim advocacy or community outreach work as required.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with victims or witnesses of crime is helpful, but not required; training will be provided for entry-level candidates.
- Must be fluent in Spanish. Clear English verbal and written communication skills are also necessary.
- Ability to maintain trauma-informed interactions with victims and witnesses.
- Reliable transportation to multiple office locations and events throughout the city of Philadelphia.
