    Introduction to NYU Center on Violence and Recovery

    The NYU Center on Violence and Recovery (CVR) is committed to deepening our understanding of violence and trauma while developing innovative solutions that promote healing. CVR leads by creating cutting-edge approaches, conducting research on trauma and restoration, and offering educational opportunities through trainings, workshops, and lectures. CVR also collaborates with and provides technical assistance to organizations across the U.S. and globally, focusing on violence, trauma, and restoration.

    Restorative Justice Circles of Peace Program

    The NYU Restorative Justice (RJ) Circles of Peace Program in DC uses restorative methods to address the root causes of violence and repair the harm caused by the punitive criminal legal system. This approach emphasizes accountability and healing, utilizing the Circles of Peace model. The Circles of Peace model is the first and only rigorously tested restorative justice model for domestic violence. The model uses RJ principles and practices to address domestic violence.

    Restorative Justice Practitioner Job Responsibilities

    • Co-facilitate Community Circles with Restorative Justice practitioners, providing an overview of treatment and leading Joint Circles.
    • Facilitate restorative interventions in accordance with the NYU Center on Violence and Recovery’s Practice Guidance.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, exchanging information according to agreed protocols.
    • Establish professional relationships with referring agencies.
    • Attend and contribute to professional meetings as needed.
    • Promote equality and anti-discriminatory practices
    • Undertake any additional duties as deemed appropriate by the Program Director.

    Work Hours & Benefits

    Work hours generally align with a Monday through Friday schedule, though flexibility is required, including availability for evenings and some weekends based on participant needs.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Proven experience as a successful practitioner and/or group facilitator.
    • Education & Experience Requirements
    • Strong communication skills with diverse populations.
    • Experience with computerized recording systems.
    • Knowledge of Restorative Justice principles and processes and applying it to gender based violence.
    • Experience working in partnership with other professionals and organizations.
    • Experience with vulnerable or socially excluded individuals.
    • Training in Restorative Justice facilitation with gender based violence (desired)

    Salary Expectations

    Salary will be based on the candidate’s education and experience. Hourly range is $60-90.
