    This position is considered remote, 0-1 days onsite at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in New England: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.

    The Associate Director, Strategy and Improvement, develops and leads strategic initiatives and improvement projects that shape and execute the strategic direction of the Division of Philanthropy. This role will identify, plan, and oversee key initiatives that drive growth, innovation, and long-term success. This role will collaborate across Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Division of Philanthropy, using data and analytics, to inform future state planning and opportunities for improvement while ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and goals. This role reports to Deputy Chief Philanthropy Officer.

    The onboarding of this role will include a comprehensive training process which includes completion of online modules, shadowing colleagues, as well as hands-on learning experiences throughout the first calendar year in the role.

    Dana-Farber is currently undertaking an ambitious fundraising effort to change the future of cancer research and care: The Dana-Farber Campaign. This multibillion-dollar campaign is the largest in the Institute’s history and one of the largest ever in the U.S. focused solely on cancer. Philanthropy raised through The Dana-Farber Campaign is focused on accelerating the Institute’s strategic priorities by supporting revolutionary science, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and essential opportunities—helping us prevent, treat, and Defy Cancer.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead cross-division Strategic Projects to accelerate performance of day-to-day operations. These projects can include but are not limited to building new capacities and functions (e.g., support building new Center of Expertise) and strengthening business processes and practices (e.g., develop and execute new KPIs);
    • Design and implementation of next generation of Division of Philanthropy business process, to accelerate the Division’s growth plan and next campaign;
    • Project manage external consulting partnerships with firms working on cross-division management and strategy engagements;
    • Lead and oversee improvement process that include analyzing current performance, identifying challenges, setting aims and aligning around changes to test and learn for strengthened outcomes;
    • Source and manage pipeline of strategic initiatives requiring dedicated capacity or time-bound engagements to address. These can include capacity building, continuous improvement or multi-month/multi-year strategy projects;
    • Collaborate with Division experts to lead cross-functional teams to accelerate business performance, including designing, testing, and launching new initiatives;
    • Leverage leadership teams and governance groups for collective problem-solving, advance action planning, strategic input and analysis;
    • Lead process to develop a multi-year strategic plan in partnership with FR&M team and other relevant functional leadership;
    • Benchmark best practices from other organizations to strengthen Division performance and practice;
    • Build and leverage knowledge of strategy and improvement practices to infuse into Division of Philanthropy work.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Collaborates closely with Chief Philanthropy Officer and the Division of Philanthropy.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required plus 6-8 years of relevant work experience in analytics, planning, and project management.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    Proven ability to think strategically, develop a vision, and translate it into actionable plans. Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully leading and delivering complex initiatives. Proficiency in data analysis and the ability to use data to inform decision-making. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas to various stakeholders. Must exercise critical thinking, problem solving, and confidentiality in working with internal and external stakeholders. Microsoft Office Suite familiarity necessary.
