    Description

    We are a dynamic, progressive, not-for-profit law firm seeking an attorney with 1-3 years of experience to focus on utility consumer protection issues, particularly as pertains to the interests of low-income and fixed-income residential utility customers (including seniors and people with disabilities). The ideal candidate will possess superior analytical and writing skills; and will be able to achieve team-related outcomes from a remote work environment. Experience with State and Federal Government and/or Agencies is a plus.

    Duties will include

    • Substantive utility-related policy work at the State and Federal level
    • Liaising with elected officials, State/Federal agencies, utility companies, and community-based organizations
    • Providing direct service casework to low-income utility customers

    Required Skills

    • Admission to the New York State Bar
    • One to three years of legal experience
    • Solid analytical, writing, research, and communications skills
    • Knowledge of utility regulation (energy, telecom, and water) or experience with litigation is preferable
    • Ability to work independently and accurately document time/tasks performed
    • Proven interest in and commitment to advocacy for the legal rights of low-income and other vulnerable populations

    The position is currently remote/hybrid, so attendant discipline and time management skills are required. The position may become office-based at any time in the future, or for interim periods as needed. Staff may occasionally be required to travel or work in an office setting based on specific project needs.
