    Summary:

    United Way Bay Area seeks a creative, detail-oriented, relationship builder to lead the philanthropic engagement of corporate and institutional partners across the region. The Senior Director, Institutional Partnerships will identify, cultivate, and manage all corporate and institutional relationships for the organization, with a focus on securing and maintaining six- to seven-figure donations.     The Senior Director, Institutional Partnerships will oversee the creation of proposals and reports for a robust institutional giving program, securing over $9M annually to support general operating grants, government contracts, as well as program-specific partnerships. The role manages a portfolio of existing institutional and corporate funders and is responsible for securing new private, corporate, and public sector grant opportunities to support United Way Bay Area’s priority programs and initiatives. The Senior Director will work closely with the VP, Development and Chief Advancement Officer, and supervise the Institutional Partnerships team to coordinate, cultivate, and execute all aspects of institutional relationships and grants management. The Senior Director directly supervises the work of a Grants Manager and a Director, Institutional Partnerships – and may oversee the work of an external consultant as needed. This role also works closely with key leaders and staff in other departments regularly, managing projects with the Community Impact, Finance, and Leadership Teams.

    The ideal candidate will have exceptional leadership skills, defining and determining the strategic direction of the institutional partnerships program; managing all aspects of corporate, government, and foundation giving across the Bay Area and providing strategic leadership on grant lead development and cultivation of funders; supervising the grants calendar; completing quarterly audits of foundation records; and cultivating relationships across a variety of funding sources. Candidates must be collaborative, deadline-driven, detail oriented, and committed to excellent relationship management. The candidate must also be a self-starter and be able to work independently while also coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders. Excellent grant writing and editing skills as well as grant tracking and monitoring acumen are imperative.

    What you’ll do:

    Revenue Planning and Reporting - Lead all aspects of institutional program revenue planning and stewardship; including org-wide budgeting and reforecasting; cash flow and reconciliation; dashboards; partnership of financial controls and submissions to foundation partners including project budgets and reports. Develop measurable goals and objectives to meet organizational goals.

    Prospect and oversee the identification of new private, corporate, and public sector opportunities in support of United Way Bay Area’s priority programs.

    Lead stewardship of institutional funders by maintaining a positive and proactive relationship with all assigned funders and orchestrate the engagement of Leadership Team and other UWBA team members in the development of these funder relationships.

    Oversee all grant writing, reporting, and proposal development processes for UWBA, working closely with all internal departments and leadership

    In partnership with the VP Development, coordinate with fellow Development team leads and staff to ensure effective collaboration on relationships that span multiple revenue streams.

    Coordinate closely with Finance to prepare comprehensive budgets for proposals and timely, accurate financial reporting.

    Coordinate with Community Impact team members to collect information for grant proposal narratives and reports, including program data and impact projections

    Oversee work of Institutional Partnerships staff on writing narratives for reports and proposals, submitting information to funders, and coordinating with all departments to collect necessary and validate accuracy

    Manage grant prospecting, research, final reports, and communication in Salesforce database. Update and manage “boilerplate” for use where appropriate in grant proposals.

    Provide leadership to Institutional Partnerships staff and consultants. Update and manage systems to ensure effective grant-writing processes, including application and reporting tracking, producing creative collateral, and compiling reports.

    Lead cross-departmental meetings around institutional partnerships prospects, reporting, and relationships

    Who you are:

    Strong nonprofit fundraising experience, particularly with private foundation, corporate funders, and/or public sector partners.

    5+ years of experience in institutional partnership team leadership, including the management of direct reports; consistent record of accomplishment in securing grants and managing contracts.

    Proven track record in successfully applying for and fulfilling corporate, foundation, and state and federal government grants, including researching and building relationships with new funders.

    Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate complex relationships skillfully. Demonstrated ability to manage highly sensitive information and maintain confidentiality; always operating with discretion and diplomacy.

    Excellent project management and organizational skills, including a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, working under time constraints to meet deadlines and complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy and dependability.

    Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external staff.

    Ability to lead decision-making processes internally in a diplomatic yet effective way to support all grant seeking activities.

    Experience in recordkeeping, reporting, grant preparation, and submission.

    Strong technology skills including above average competency in Word and Excel, research databases, and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tools, particularly Salesforce.

    Support an inclusive environment and value the individual traits, skills and talents of all staff, volunteers, and donors.

    Knowledge of and experience working within the institutional funding landscape of the Bay Area preferred.

    Four-year college degree or equivalent experience.

    Salary range: 136,000 - 144,000
