WHO WE ARE
The Institute for Ecological Civilization (EcoCiv) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that promotes civilizational change for the long-term wellbeing of people and the planet. EcoCiv works internationally to design and scale solutions toward long-term sustainability, currently focusing on water, economies, and food systems. We conduct research, convene experts, and facilitate the identification and scaling of transformative solutions to key global issues. We then help implement solutions through engagement at local and global levels. Other activities include consultations, think-tank gatherings, and policy engagement.
THE POSITION
EcoCiv is ready to hire a local full-time, non-exempt Employment Coordinator for the new Pomona Jobs Program (PJP). This job creation and training program is a partnership between EcoCiv and the Latino/a Roundtable and is funded by the City of Pomona. The Employment Coordinator will work primarily to secure commitments from area employers to hire participants in the Pomona Jobs Program, with a focus on Pomona's "anchor institutions": hospitals, colleges, city schools, and city government. He/she will work with area employers and stakeholders to increase the number of local residents whom they interview, with the goal of reducing unemployment and underemployment in the region.
The successful candidate for this position will also work with Pomona Valley businesses, BIPOC-owned small businesses, and worker-owned cooperatives. In addition to securing employment opportunities, he/she will collaborate closely with a full-time Community Organizer, who identifies job candidates and coordinates training. Each of the two full-time staff will also manage a predicted caseload of 15-20 beneficiaries of the program at any given time, many of whom are Spanish-speaking. While some of the work can be done remotely, over half the time will be onsite in the Pomona area.
The ideal candidate will have two types of qualifications. (1) They will have some training and/or experience working with businesses and with workforce development. (2) They will also have experience mentoring and supporting unemployed and underemployed individuals as they receive training and move into the job force. The Pomona Jobs Program endorses the principles of California's "High Road Training Partnership" approach, emphasizing employment opportunities that support the personal and financial wellbeing of employees and their dependents.
Because applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis, interested candidates are encouraged to submit their materials at their earliest convenience. Successful applicants will be asked to supply the names of three professional references who can be reached by phone at the appropriate time in the search process. This is a grant-funded position.
