Oakland Promise supports children and families from birth through college and career to ensure that postsecondary success is a reality for all Oaklanders. Oakland Promise includes four programs: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College (K2C), College Access, and College Completion, that provide a cradle to career continuum of college-focused supports for students.     Job Purpose

    Oakland Promise seeks a highly motivated Development Manager with fundraising, project management, and relationship-building skills coupled with a passion for expanding opportunities for Oakland families. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Development Manager will be a key member of a dynamic development team, which raises $19M annually to serve Oakland families. This position will also work closely with the Communications, Impact & Evaluation, Partnerships, and Program teams to expand and deepen our fundraising efforts.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • In collaboration with the CDO, perform prospect research on potential individual funders in order to expand Oakland Promise’s donor database. 
    • Lead and track the Development Team’s annual calendar of events and activities in Asana, ensuring milestones and metrics are on track.
    • Lead various external facing fundraising and stewardship events that raise critical funds for Oakland Promise or introduce new funders to our organization.
    • Prepare and attend external funder meetings with the CDO and CEO, including generating briefings, agendas, reports, and slide decks as needed.
    • Lead and manage seasonal fundraising campaigns (e.g. annual fall campaign as our biggest push, and other smaller campaigns as needed).
    • Oversee the development and reporting for Oakland Promise’s Great Expectations Scholarship donors, including supporting donors with selection, interviewing, awarding, and bi-annual scholar reporting.
    • Perform moves management with a portfolio of funders with an emphasis on scholarship donors, corporate funders, and mid-level annual fund donors.
    • In partnership with the CDO, craft and disseminate compelling donor communications (e.g. donor e-newsletters, impact reports, etc.) in order to amplify our impact and bring donors closer to our mission.
    • Working closely with the Development Associate, ensure our Salesforce database and development dashboards are updated, clean, and accurate.
    • Working closely with the Associate Manager of Institutional Giving to submit foundation proposals and reports in a timely manner.
    • Supervise both the Development Associate and Associate Manager of Institutional Giving.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in experience
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in development/fundraising 
    • Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple competing deadlines 
    • Deep commitment to and passion for the vision of the Oakland Promise 
    • Proficiency in Google Suites platforms (google docs, sheets, and presentations)
    • Strong self-motivation and ability to operate effectively with limited direction
    • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders
    • Strong oral and written communication skills 
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in the field of education 
    • Events management experience
    • Proficiency in Salesforce, Canva, Classy, Asana, Slack
    • Knowledge of and connections to Oakland communities
    • Experience leading corporate engagement strategies 
    • Experience with supervision / managing team members
    • Comfort working with ambiguity

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • Full time exempt position
    • Hiring range for this role is $80,000-$90,000 based on skill sets and experience
    • Oakland Promise offers a competitive benefits package, which includes dental / health/ vision, paid vacations and sick days and a 401k match up to 3%.

    Oakland Promise is a place-based organization located in Oakland, California. Oakland Promise requires that employees work in person at various engagements. Currently, Oakland Promise staff are working in a hybrid model, with some work being done remotely and some work being done in the office or at specific locations in or around Oakland. It is a requirement that all staff reside within commuting distance to the main office, located at 484 9th Street, Oakland, CA 94607. Please note that at any time, a full in-person work plan may be required, and it is of utmost importance that all staff are able to meet this requirement.
